 This week at Cowra U3A

Tuesday 19 November 2024 Guest Speaker.

Thursday 21 November bring information about a bird but we have yet to nominate a bird so watch this space tomorrow for a decision.

 On 12 November 2024 we watched lecture number 8 of the Great Courses Cathedrals and learnt about the first gothic cathedral St Denis in France and  Abbot Suger.

 Tuesday 5 November at Cowra U3A, after Tai Chi and the weekly trivia we will celebrate Melbourne Cup with some games, sweeps lunch and watching the cup.

On Thursday we ask members to bring a flower from their garden to share and talk about.

 Last Thursday at Cowra U3A we celebrated Halloween by studying bats and the origin of Halloween.

 



    

 Last week at Cowra U3A we were taken on a Whale Watching adventure to Eden on the Far South Coast courtesy of  one of Norms slide shows. We all look forward to Norm's slide shows which normally feature wild flowers, birds, animals and wonderful scenery.

 Term 4 at Cowra U3A promises to be a very busy one. So far we have practiced Tai Chi on a deck with an amazing view and enjoyed freshly baked scones with jam and cream,  solved an Acrostic in Brain Games, explored another Obscure event that Changed the World and visited the Cowra Regional Art Gallery to see the Calleen Art Awards then enjoyed lunch at Cowra Bowling Club.

 


This week on Tuesday 29 October we are looking forward to a Norm Palazzi slide show from his many travels around Australia with a particular focus on wild flowers the celebrating Halloween on Thursday 31 October by studying bats.




 

Other highlights in term 4 will be Melbourne Cup lunch, visiting the Art Gallery to see Upstart Art 24 and Christmas Lunch which is held in partnership with Cowra & District Senior Citizens Club

 



On Fridays some Cowra U3A members join with Cowra Senior Citizens Club members to play Canasta. There is always lot of laughter and lots of friendly completion.  Members of the public are invited to come and have a game or two before deciding to join this wonderful group. Seniors are defined as anyone over 50 no longer working full time and membership is only $25.00 a year payable on 1 July and there is an attendance charge of $2.50 per day.

some of subjects on offer in term 4 are Obscure events that changed the world, Visits to Art Gallery, Slide Show, Halloween & Bats, Australian Women, Cathedrals, Guest Speakers, Melbourne Cup, Christmas and much more.

 Today at Cowra U3A we found out about the Chinese Treasure Fleet of over 300 vessels that made 7 voyages between 1405 and 1433. Some of the vessels were over 110 metres long.

 Hello Everyone.

It has been a long time since we posted but Cowra U3A is still meeting at Cowra & District Senior Citizens Club in Railway Lane, Cowra NSW on Tuesday and Thursdays from 9.30 am till 12.30 pm.

New members are always welcome so drop in and collect a brochure and timetable.

We start each day with Tai Chi at 9.30 am, Morning tea and short trivia session at 10.30am

Thursday 12 September our topic at 11.00pm is Fanny Durack, the first Australian woman to win an Olympic Gold Medal.
